How did you progress from a Club sailor to an Olympic class sailor?

I was introduced to regional optimist events by my uncle then the opportunity came to race in Largs; my first international experience. I continued to race internationally competing at reggattas in Europe. The next year I qualified for trials and got onto the u12s squad, the following year I qualified for the development squad which went to the German Nationals in Kiel. I finished my Optimist racing at the 2011 Irish Optimist Nationals. I was asked by Sean Waddilove to race in the 420 Nationals that year. We teamed up and had a very successful time in the 420 including a year in France training with Phillppe Boudgourd and the La Rochelle 420 team. We qualified for the ISAF youth worlds, the junior europeans and worlds twice. After deciding to leave the 420 class we invested in a 49er… an olympic class boat.
